Allen Brown is president and CEO of The Open Group. Allen has been with the company since 1993, when he joined the then X/Open Company Limited with the dual responsibility of CFO and vice president of business development, where he played a significant role in the development of the certification of conformance to the Single UNIX Specification and the licensing of the Unix trademark. In 1994 he assumed the role of COO and was actively involved in the merger of X/Open Company Limited with the Open Software Foundation. After the merger, as part of the integration activities, he was appointed senior vice president, was later named acting president and CEO, and then eventually was confirmed in his current position. Prior to joining The Open Group, Allen managed a consulting firm in London, which he founded in 1987. He enjoyed a mix of financial management and general management assignments, which included advising venture capitalists on investment decisions and consulting on IT systems design and implementation. In 1984 he co-founded Cambridge Venture Management Ltd., based in Cambridge, England, a consulting firm specializing in the provision of experienced management to small and developing companies on a part-time basis. Toufic Boubez is CTO and a cofounder of Layer 7 Technologies and is a well-respected and renowned Web services visionary. He was the chief Web services architect for IBM's Software Group and drove their early XML and Web services strategies. He worked as IBM's technical representative to the UDDI Web services consortium and participated on several standards bodies including the UN/CEFACT/OASIS ebXML initiative. During that time, Toufic coauthored the original UDDI API specification. Toufic also managed some of IBM Global Services' largest e-business engagements.
